General questions

Welcome at PatrolServer! We are a service that constantly scans your servers for outdated software and exploits.

Our dashboard is very user friendly and easy-to-use. You can create your account by clicking the "Scan your server" button in the navigation bar above. It is as easy as simply putting your domain name (eg: patrolserver.com) in a dialog, and we do the rest.

You need either a free or paid PatrolServer account. If you're not already a member, you can sign up for a free account by clicking the "Scan your server" button at the top.

At PatrolServer, the security of your data is our highest priority. Our platform is secured on multiple levels.

  1. All communication between you and our server is encrypted. No eaves-dropping possible. You are the only person who knows your own server vulnerabilities.
  2. You have to verify your server, somebody else can not simply scan your server when he or she isn't the administrator of that server.
  3. We separate the scan logic and the web logic into different servers. The scanner is the only server that knows the password information and it completely sealed off from the outside world.
  4. The PHPDetector file will only react to our server and all data exchanged is encrypted with keys only known to the scan server.
  5. We keep improving our security while monitoring our systems (with our own service, but plenty of other services too).
Think about your current server. It has plenty of software installed (some you know, some you might not know). This can cause security issues. PatrolServer makes sure you know your issues. It's up to you (or someone you know) to fix these issues with our handy solution cards. These are cards we provide with detailed instructions on how to fix certain exploits, outdated software, ...
We don't want someone else to know your vulnerabilities. In order to scan your own server, you must verify it to let the system know you are actually the owner of the domain you enter.

Application specific questions

It could be that your server (or hoster) hides software and version numbers. If this is the case, we can not detect it at the moment. However, we constantly update our scanner with new techniques. For now, we support the following software packages:

  • OpenSSH
  • OpenSSL
  • Apache
  • Drupal
  • Wordpress
  • Nginx
  • PHP
If you are a user and/or customer, you can request new software detections in your dashboard. When not enough software is detected on your server, you will be prompted with a dialog requesting the software running on your server.
When you add a server, click the "Show advanced options" and provide a different port.
At the moment, we do not support misconfiguration of your server. The biggest problems related to hacking is outdated software, and we'd like to be really good at it first. In further releases, we'll investigate new ways to secure your server.

Whoops, looks like something went wrong.
